The Natural State {Photo Essay}

What an adventure.

Every summer I try to get out on the river for a proper float trip.

I had not taken on the Buffalo National River in Arkansas yet, so a small group of us set out to canoe down the river despite the chance of storms. About halfway through the 10 mile trip, the storm hit. We had to take cover under a tree and hope it was just a flash storm. It wasn't just a flash. The storm was there to stay, so we loaded the canoes back up and powered through the storm for the next two hours.

We encountered a nutria, a group of deer, a pair of wild turkey, and best of all, a bald eagle. We weren't able to grab a quality picture of America's national bird, but seeing a bald eagle in the wild was definitely a bucket list item.

I capped the weekend off with a hike up Pinnacle Mountain in Little Rock with my Little from the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.

Friendly cavalry stopped by our makeshift shelter during the storm.
